Amatenango del Valle is a small town and a larger area (called a municipality) in the sunny state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico. It covers about 236 square kilometers, which is roughly the size of a medium-sized city.

In 2010, the whole municipality had about 8,728 people living there. This was more than the 6,559 people counted in 2005. The main town of Amatenango del Valle itself had 4,661 residents in 2010, up from 3,351 in 2005. The municipality also has 60 smaller villages, but none of them had more than 1,000 people.
