History of Ames
Ames got its first post office in 1885. Before that, the community was known as Ketchum. It was later renamed Ames, probably after Oakes Ames. He was an important official with the Union Pacific Railroad. Ames was a key stop and shipping point along the Union Pacific Railroad line. This made it an important place for moving goods and people.
