Amir Yavari, whose full name was Ghasem Amir Yavarkandi, was a famous Iranian boxer. He was born on December 5, 1931, and passed away on November 10, 2020. Amir Yavari was an important member of Iran's national boxing team.

He started his boxing journey in 1947 when he was just sixteen years old. He first joined the "Niroo va Rasti" Club, which means "Power and Virtue." Later, he moved to the "Jafari" Club. He continued his national boxing career there until 1962.

Amir Yavari's Boxing Journey

Amir Yavari was a boxer from Tehran's Jafari Club. He competed in the 67 and 71 kilogram weight classes.

Early National Team Experience

Yavari was first chosen to train with the Iran national Boxing team in 1948. This was for the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was a reserve boxer, meaning he was ready to step in if needed. This was his first time on the national team.

Asian Games Success

Amir Yavari became the team captain for the Iranian boxers at the 1958 Asian Games. He competed in the light-middleweight division. At these games, he won a silver medal in the 71 kg boxing division. He lost to Osamu Takahashi from Japan in the final match.

Olympic Captaincy and Retirement

Yavari was also chosen as the captain for the Iranian boxing team at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He competed in the welterweight division during these games.

He was selected again for the senior Iranian national boxing team for the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. He had won his matches in the Iran national championships to qualify. However, the Iran National Olympic Committee decided not to send any sports teams to those games. They said it was because they didn't have enough money.

Because of this decision, Amir Yavari retired from championship boxing in 1962. He passed on the national boxing team captaincy armband to another boxer, Hassan Pakandam.
