A Look Back: Amora Maille's Journey
Amora Maille used to have its main office in Dijon, France.
In 1999, the company had about 1,000 employees. They ran factories in several French towns. These included Dijon, Chevigny, Appoigny, Carvin, and Vitrolles. At that time, they also sold products in Belgium. There was even a special museum for mustard at their Dijon factory!
Joining the Unilever Family
Also in 1999, a large company called Unilever bought Amora Maille. Unilever paid about $739.3 million for it. This purchase helped Unilever sell more food products in Europe. Amora Maille was sold by a French banking group called Paribas SA and other investors. Today, the company makes all Amora and Maille mustard sold in France and worldwide. However, the gherkins (small pickles) used in Amora and Maille products now come from China or India. Before 2000, they were grown in France.
In 2008, Amora Maille announced some changes. They decided to close three of their factories in Dijon. They moved most of their work to Chevigny. The Dijon factory closed in 2009. Some production also moved to Poland. As of 2018, part of the company's products are made in Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur.

The Amora brand sells many items. These include mustard, ketchup, bouillon (a type of broth), salad dressing, and seasonings. The Maille brand sells mustard, different sauces, olive oil, and vinegar.
Amora's mustard is known for being quite strong and spicy. It has a very distinct taste compared to other Dijon mustards.
