Mustard is a popular condiment that you might put on hot dogs or sandwiches! It's made from tiny mustard seeds. These seeds come from different types of mustard plants.
There are three main kinds of mustard plants:
- Sinapis alba (white mustard, also called yellow mustard)
- Brassica juncea (brown mustard)
- Brassica nigra (black mustard)
To make mustard, the seeds are mixed with water, vinegar, or other liquids. Sometimes, other flavors and spices are added too. This mix creates a paste or sauce. Mustard can be bright yellow or even dark brown.
