Joseph Anthony "Amp" Fiddler was a talented American musician. He was a singer, songwriter, keyboard player, and record producer. Amp Fiddler was born in Detroit, Michigan, in May 1958. He passed away on December 17, 2023, at the age of 65.
Amp Fiddler was known for his unique musical style. He mixed sounds from funk, soul, dance, and electronica music. Many people knew him for his work with the band Enchantment. He also played with George Clinton's famous groups, Parliament and Funkadelic, from 1985 to 1996.
His first solo album was called Waltz of a Ghetto Fly. It came out on March 9, 2004. His last album, Amp Dog Knights, was released in 2017.
Amp Fiddler's Music Journey
Amp Fiddler worked with many famous musicians. He collaborated with artists like George Clinton and Prince. He also played with Jamiroquai, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Maxwell.
Amp Fiddler also helped other artists get started. He is known for introducing the hip-hop producer J Dilla to a special music machine. This machine was called the Akai MPC sampling drum machine. He also connected J Dilla with Q-Tip from the group A Tribe Called Quest. This helped J Dilla enter the music industry.
Amp Fiddler also made music with his brother, Bubz. Bubz was a bass guitarist, producer, and songwriter. In 1990, they released an album together called With Respect. They recorded it under the name Mr. Fiddler.
Later Years and Passing
Amp Fiddler faced some health challenges. In 2022, he had surgery and was recovering. To help with his medical costs, a special event was held for him in Detroit. This fundraiser took place on December 10, 2023. Sadly, Amp Fiddler passed away a week later, on December 17, 2023. He was 65 years old.
