Amrutanubhav (also spelled Amritanubhav) is a special book written by a Marathi saint and poet named Jñāneśvar in the 13th century. It is thought to be a very important work in Marathi literature.
What Does Amrutanubhav Mean?
The name Amrutanubhav comes from two Marathi words. The first word is Amrut, which means "immortal Elixir" or "nectar of immortality" in Sanskrit. The second word is Anubhav, which means "experience." So, Amrutanubhav literally means "the experience of immortality."
Why Was Amrutanubhav Written?
Jñāneśvar wrote Amrutanubhav because his teacher, called a guru, Nivruttinath, asked him to. Jñāneśvar wanted to share his deep experiences with yoga and philosophy in this book.
Even though this book is not as famous as Jñāneśvar's other big work, the Jñāneśvari, it is still seen as one of the most important books in Marathi writing. Amrutanubhav was the last book Jñāneśvar wrote. After finishing it, he decided to enter a special spiritual state called Sanjeevan Samadhi. This means he chose to leave his body in a deep meditative state.
