Amy's Golf Journey

Amy Alcott was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She started her professional golf career at a young age. In 1973, she won the U.S. Girls' Junior championship.

She became a professional golfer in 1975. She was just 18 years old. Her first win as a pro came quickly. It was at the Orange Blossom Classic. Because of her great start, she was named LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

Amy had many successful years. She won four tournaments in a single year three times. This happened in 1979, 1980, and 1984. Her best year was 1980. She won four events and also earned the LPGA Vare Trophy. This award is for the golfer with the lowest average score. She also finished second five times that year.

Major Wins and Hall of Fame

Amy won her first major championship in 1979. It was the Peter Jackson Classic. Then, in 1980, she won the U.S. Women's Open.

She also won the Nabisco Dinah Shore three times. These wins were in 1983, 1988, and 1991. Her 1991 win was her last on the LPGA Tour. After her 1988 win, Amy started a fun tradition. The winner now jumps into "Poppie's Pond" to celebrate!

Amy won 29 times in her career. To get into the LPGA Hall of Fame, golfers needed 30 wins back then. Amy tried hard to get her 30th win. But she didn't get it. In 1999, the Hall of Fame changed its rules. They started using a points system. Because of this, Amy was able to join the World Golf Hall of Fame.

She is also in the National Jewish Museum Sports Hall of Fame. And she's in the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

Life After Touring

After her time as a touring golfer, Amy started new projects. She began working on golf course design. She also hosted a radio show about golf. She has even written a book and made a video to teach others about golf.
