Amy Lynn Carlson (born July 7, 1968) is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles as Linda Reagan in the TV show Blue Bloods. She also played Alex Taylor on Third Watch and Josie Watts in the soap opera Another World.

Early Life and Education
Amy Carlson was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, which is a town near Chicago. She grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Her parents, Barbara Jane and Robert Eugene Carlson, were both schoolteachers. Amy has Swedish family roots.
After high school, Carlson went to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. She studied East Asian Studies and focused on theater. She was very involved in the college's theater program. She acted in several plays and even directed one during her last year. She graduated with honors.

Starting Out: Early Acting Roles
Amy Carlson's first acting job was a small background role in the movie Lucas. After college, she moved to Chicago to learn more about acting. She took classes and performed in small theater shows. She also appeared in a few TV shows like The Untouchables and Missing Persons.
Becoming a TV Star
In 1993, Carlson got a big role as Josie Watts on the soap opera Another World. She moved to New York City for this job. During her time on the show, she traveled to Rwanda with World Vision to help with an awareness campaign after a war. In 1998, she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on Another World.
After Another World, Carlson moved to Los Angeles. She appeared in many popular TV shows. These included NYPD Blue and Get Real. She also filmed If These Walls Could Talk 2. From 2000 to 2003, she starred as Alex Taylor in the TV show Third Watch.
Major Roles and Family Life
After Third Watch, Carlson starred in Peacemakers. She also appeared in an episode of Law & Order. Soon after, she joined the cast of Law & Order: Trial by Jury. She continued to act in various TV shows and films, including Criminal Minds and Fringe.
In 2010, Amy Carlson began playing Linda Reagan on the popular show Blue Bloods. She played this main role for seven seasons. During breaks from Blue Bloods, she acted in the TV movie Too Big to Fail and the movie Hits. Her character, Linda, was a nurse who died in a helicopter crash at the start of the eighth season of Blue Bloods in 2017.
Recent Work
After Blue Bloods, Carlson took on recurring roles in The Society and The Village. She also acted in films like Sunny Daze, The Incoherents, A Bread Factory Part One, and Know Fear.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Carlson co-wrote, directed, and starred in a short film called The Letter. She worked on this film with her husband, Syd Butler. Her work on The Letter earned her awards for best director and actor at several film festivals.
During the 2020 pandemic, Carlson and her husband, Syd Butler, along with his bandmate Seth Jabour, released their second music album, Holidays of Love.
