Amy Gutierrez: Author of Smarty Marty's Got Game
In 2012, a publishing company asked Amy Gutierrez to write a children's book. The book was about baseball and was for kids aged 6–9. The book, titled Smarty Marty's Got Game, was published in 2013. Adam McCauley created the illustrations for the book.
The main character, Marty, is based on Amy's mother and grandmother. Amy named Marty after her grandmother, who passed away just before Amy started writing the book. In the story, Marty is a little girl who teaches her younger brother about baseball. This relationship is similar to how Amy's own children interact.
