Ana Lara (born on November 30, 1959) is a famous Mexican composer. She writes many different kinds of music.

Ana Lara's Journey in Music

Ana Lara was born in Mexico City. She started her music studies at the National Conservatory of Music. There, she learned from important teachers like Mario Lavista and Daniel Catán. She also studied with Federico Ibarra.

Later, Ana Lara continued her studies in Warsaw, Poland. She learned at the Warsaw Academy of Music. She also studied ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland. Ethnomusicology is the study of music from different cultures around the world. She earned a Master of Arts degree in this field.

After finishing her studies, Ana Lara became a composer and music producer. In 1989, she started producing a modern music show. This show was for Mexico City University Radio (Radio UNAM). In 2000, she was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award. This was for being the Best Classical Album Producer.

Ana Lara also started and led a big music event. It was called Mexico's International Festival Música y Escena. She also directed summer music courses in Puebla. Besides all this, she teaches music. She gives classes and workshops about music from Latin America and the 20th century.

  • 1996 Y la marcha de la humanidad? – This was a piece for the stage. It had choreography by Alicia Sánchez.

  • 2002 Elles – A stage piece with choreography by Luoise Bédard.
  • 1997 Requiem – This was written for a choir that sings without instruments.
  • 1986 Two etudes – Two short pieces for piano.
  • 1990 Saga – A piece for the harp.
  • 1992 Pegaso – This piece could be played on a harpsichord, piano, or organ.
  • 2006 Recuerdos del poeta – A piano piece.
  • 2007 Cake walk (Caminata de pastelito) – Another piano piece.
  • 1985 In Memoriam – Written for cello and G flute.
  • 1992 Vitrales – For viola, cello, and doublebass.
  • 1992 O mar, maré, bateaux – For two guitars or four hands on one guitar.

  • 2006 Concerto – A special piece for a bassett horn and orchestra.
