Ana María Pérez del Campo Noriega (born 19 May 1936) is a Spanish lawyer and writer. She is known for being a pioneer in fighting for women's rights in Spain. She started her work during the time of Franco's rule and continued through Spain's change to a democracy. In 1974, she created the Asociación de Mujeres Separadas (Association of Separated Women). This was at a time when divorce was not yet legal in Spain. She also helped prepare the rules for the 1981 divorce law. Ana María has always worked for equal rights for men and women. More recently, she has focused on helping women who have been mistreated.

Ana María Pérez del Campo's Life

Ana María Pérez del Campo was born in Madrid, Spain, on May 19, 1936. She grew up in a traditional family. She got married in 1956. By 1961, she left her husband with her children after facing difficult personal challenges in her marriage. This experience later inspired her to help other women in similar situations.

Fighting for Women's Rights

In the late 1960s, Ana María began working with historian Mabel Pérez Serrano. They started to plan a movement to protect the rights of women who had to separate from their husbands. At that time, it was very hard for women to leave a marriage, as divorce was not allowed by law.

In 1974, their efforts led to the creation of the Asociación de Mujeres Separadas (Association of Separated Women). In the same year, she earned a special degree in marriage law from the Comillas Pontifical University.

Helping Create Divorce Law

Ana María played a very important role in changing laws in Spain. In 1981, she helped write the rules for the new divorce law. This law made it legal for couples to divorce in Spain. After the law was passed, her association changed its name to include "y Divorciada," meaning "and Divorced Women." This showed that they now also supported women who had officially divorced.

She has continued to fight for equal rights for men and women throughout her life. She has also worked to defend women who have been victims of abuse. Her work has made a big difference in the lives of many women in Spain.
