Ana de Castro Egas was an important Spanish writer from the end of the 16th century. She was a talented poet and also wrote biographies. She lived during a special time in Spanish history called the Spanish Golden Age, when art and literature were very popular.
The only book we know she wrote is called Eternidad del Rey don Filipe Tercero nuestro señor, el piadoso. It was published in 1629.

Early Life and Royal Connections
Ana de Castro Egas was born in the late 1500s. Her hometown was Valdepeñas, a place in Ciudad Real, Spain. Later, she moved to Madrid, the capital city.
When she was a child, she met Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand of Austria. He was a very important person. As she grew up, Ana became close to the Spanish Royal Family. She was also good friends with the Dukes of Lerma and Uceda. These were powerful noble families.
Writing for the King
Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand of Austria had a great idea. He suggested that Ana de Castro Egas should write a biography about his father, King Philip III of Spain. A biography is a book about someone's life.
Ana started working on the king's biography. She even worked with a famous writer named Francisco de Quevedo. He wrote the introduction for her book.
In 1629, her book was finally published. Its full title was Eternidad del Rey don Filipe Tercero nuestro señor, el piadoso. This book was a special kind of writing called a panegyric. A panegyric is a text that praises someone highly. Ana wrote it to celebrate King Philip III. This is the only one of her works that we still have today.
How People Knew About Her
Even though only one of her books survived, many people knew about Ana de Castro Egas. Other famous poets and writers of her time wrote poems and stories about her. They even dedicated their works to her! Some of these writers included Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Valdivieso, and others. This shows how respected she was in the literary world.
Ana also worked closely with other women in her family. These included her niece Catalina del Río and her cousins Clara María and Ana María de Castro. Ana de Castro Egas was known for helping women get involved in writing and academic groups. She believed women should have a place in literature.
