Anatole "Tolly" de Grunwald (born December 25, 1910 – died January 13, 1967) was a talented Russian British film producer and screenwriter. This means he helped make movies and wrote the stories for them.

Biography of Anatole de Grunwald

Anatole de Grunwald was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His father was a diplomat, working for the Tsar (the ruler of Russia at the time). When Anatole was seven, his family had to leave Russia during the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, a big political change. They moved to France.

Anatole grew up in France and England. He studied at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge in England and also at the University of Paris (Sorbonne) in France. He started his career in films by reading movie scripts for a company called Gaumont-British.

He soon began writing scripts himself in 1939 for the British film industry. Later, he became a film producer, which means he was in charge of making movies. He became the managing director of Two Cities Films. Then, in 1946, he started his own film company with his brother, Dimitri de Grunwald.

Anatole de Grunwald often helped write the scripts for the movies he produced. Some of these films include The Winslow Boy (1948) and The Holly and the Ivy (1952). Most of his films were made in Britain. In the 1960s, he worked in the United States for a short time, producing several movies, before returning to England.

His final films included The V.I.P.s (1963) and The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1965). He often worked closely with director Anthony Asquith and writer Terence Rattigan. Anatole de Grunwald passed away in London.
