Anderson Hunt (born May 5, 1969) is an American former basketball player. He is best known for his time playing college basketball. He was a star player for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels team.
Playing College Basketball
Anderson Hunt was a big part of the successful Runnin' Rebels team from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV). This team was very strong between 1989 and 1991. They reached the Final Four of the college basketball tournament two years in a row.
In 1990, his team won the national championship. In the final game, UNLV played against Duke University. Hunt scored 29 points in their big 103–73 win. Because of his amazing performance, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
In May 1991, some photos of Hunt and his teammates with a person known for sports fixing caused a lot of trouble. This situation led to the team's coach, Jerry Tarkanian, eventually leaving UNLV. After the 1991 season, Hunt decided to leave college early. He wanted to try for the 1991 NBA draft, even though his coach hoped he would stay.
Professional Basketball Career
Even though Anderson Hunt had a great college career, he was not chosen in the 1991 NBA draft. However, a team called the La Crosse Catbirds picked him in the second round of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) draft. This was with the 25th pick overall.
Hunt played 42 games in the CBA over three seasons. He played for teams like the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Fort Wayne Fury, and Quad City Thunder. During his time in the CBA, he averaged 11 points per game. Besides playing in the United States, Hunt also played professional basketball in other countries. He played in Turkey, Poland, and France.
After Basketball
After he stopped playing basketball, Anderson Hunt worked at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Today, he is involved with a youth basketball program. This program is supported by 4POINT4 Sports.
To honor his great college career, UNLV retired Hunt's number 12 jersey. This special event happened on November 11, 2023.
