Andes is a town and a municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Antioquia Department. Andes is part of the Southwestern Antioquia region. It sits on the western side of the Andes mountain range.
The town was started on March 13, 1852. Pedro Antonio Restrepo Escobar founded it. Andes is 1,360 meters (about 4,460 feet) above sea level. The average temperature there is 22 °C (72 °F).
Andes is about 117 km (73 miles) from Medellín city. Medellín is the capital of the Antioquia Department. The total area of Andes is 402.5 km2 (155.4 sq mi).
This town is famous as the birthplace of Gonzalo Arango. He was a writer, philosopher, and journalist from Antioquia. The main way people in Andes make money is through farming. They mostly grow coffee.
Climate and Weather
Andes has a tropical rainforest climate. This means it has steady temperatures all year. The nights are cool, and there is a lot of rain. This type of climate is called Af in the Köppen climate classification.
