Andes is a cool town and a municipality in the Antioquia Department of Colombia. It's located in the southwestern part of Antioquia. This town sits high up in the western Andes mountain range in Colombia.
Andes was started a long time ago, on March 13, 1852, by a person named Pedro Antonio Restrepo Escobar. It's about 1,360 meters (that's over 4,400 feet) above sea level. The weather is usually nice, with an average temperature of 22°C (about 72°F).
The town is about 117 kilometers (73 miles) away from Medellín, which is the capital city of the Antioquia Department. Andes covers a total area of 402.5 square kilometers (about 155 square miles).
Andes is famous for being the birthplace of Gonzalo Arango. He was a well-known writer, philosopher, and journalist from Antioquia. The main way people in Andes make a living is through farming. They grow a lot of coffee, which is a very important crop there.
Climate in Andes
Andes has a special kind of weather called a tropical rainforest climate. This means it's warm and wet all year round. The temperatures stay pretty much the same, and it rains a lot.
What is a Tropical Rainforest Climate?
A tropical rainforest climate is found in places near the Equator. It means there's no real "winter" or "summer" like in other parts of the world. Instead, it's warm every day, and there's plenty of rain. This helps plants grow really well!
Temperatures and Rainfall
In Andes, the average temperature is around 22°C (72°F). It's usually warm but not too hot. The town gets a lot of rain throughout the year. This steady rain and warmth are perfect for growing coffee beans.
