André N. Davis was a talented American football player. He was born on June 12, 1979. André played as a wide receiver and a kick returner in the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football at Virginia Tech. There, he was recognized as an All-American in 2000. The Cleveland Browns picked him in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft. André also played for the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans. While at Virginia Tech, he even appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine!

Early Life and High School Sports
André Davis grew up in Niskayuna, New York. He was a star athlete at Niskayuna High School. He was especially good at track and field. André also played soccer for a while.
He didn't start playing football until his junior year of high school. He joined the football team after a disagreement with his soccer coach.
College Football Career
André Davis earned a football scholarship to Virginia Tech. He played alongside famous quarterback Michael Vick there. In the 2000 Sugar Bowl, André scored the first touchdown for the Hokies. Even though they lost to Florida State, it was a big moment.
For his achievements in college, André received the Today's Top VIII Award. This award honors top student-athletes. He was also honored by being added to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
Playing in the NFL
The Cleveland Browns chose André Davis in the 2002 NFL draft. Another player named Andra Davis was also drafted by the Browns that year. Because of this, both players had to use their full names on their jerseys.
Time with the Cleveland Browns
André played for the Browns for three seasons. He was a wide receiver and also played on special teams. On October 17, 2004, André made an amazing play. He caught a pass and ran 99 yards for a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. This play tied an NFL record for the longest touchdown reception ever.
Playing for Other Teams
After leaving the Browns, André played for the New England Patriots in 2005. Then, in 2006, he played for the Buffalo Bills. In 2007, he signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans.
André became a starter for the Texans when another player, Andre Johnson, was injured. He scored his first touchdown for the Texans on October 1, 2007. It was a 35-yard touchdown catch against the Atlanta Falcons. He also became a kick returner for the Texans.
In the last game of the 2007 season, André had an incredible performance. He scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns against the Jacksonville Jaguars. One was for 97 yards, and the next was for 104 yards!
The Texans were very impressed and signed André to a new four-year contract in 2008. He stayed with the team until February 2011, when the Texans released him.
