Andre Leander Arendse, born on June 27, 1967, is a well-known South African former soccer player. He was a fantastic goalkeeper during his playing days. After retiring from playing, he became an assistant and goalkeeper coach for Supersport United. He also worked as a TV presenter for SuperSport.

Andre Arendse's Soccer Journey
Andre Arendse started his professional soccer career in 1991. He played for Cape Town Spurs in a league called the NSL. In 1992, he was loaned to another Cape Town team, Santos.
Playing for Different Clubs
Arendse played for several professional teams during his career. He played for Oxford United and Fulham in England. In South Africa, he played for Santos, Mamelodi Sundowns, and SuperSport United.
He stopped playing professional soccer in 2009. He ended his career by winning the Premier Soccer League title with SuperSport United. In May 2013, Arendse made a surprising return to the field. He played as an emergency goalkeeper for Bidvest Wits. This happened because many of their regular goalkeepers were injured. These injured players included Steven Hoffman, Jackson Mabokgwane, Emile Baron, and Ryan Harrison. When he played for Bidvest Wits, Andre Arendse became the oldest player in the history of the PSL. He broke the record previously held by Bruce Grobbelaar.
Playing for His Country
Andre Arendse also played for the South Africa national team, known as Bafana Bafana. He played 67 games for his country. His first game for South Africa was in 1995.
He was chosen to be part of the team for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. However, he had to withdraw from the squad because of an injury. His replacement, Paul Evans, also got injured and was replaced by Simon Gopane. Arendse was the main goalkeeper for South Africa at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He stopped playing international soccer in 2004. He was also the starting goalkeeper when the South Africa team won the 1996 African Cup of Nations. This was a very big achievement for the team.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Andre Arendse moved into coaching. In April 2022, he became the interim coach for Supersport United. This means he took charge temporarily. Later, the club hired Gavin Hunt as the permanent coach. Andre Arendse then stayed on as an assistant coach. The club explained that Arendse did not have all the necessary coaching qualifications if the team were to play in big international competitions.
