Andre Owens (born October 31, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player. He is also a head coach. He played as a Shooting guard during his career.

Early Basketball Journey

High School and College Years

Andre Owens grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a talented basketball player from a young age. He played for Perry Meridian High School and was recognized as an Indiana All-Star in his final year there.

After high school, Andre went to Indiana University to play college basketball. Later, he transferred to the University of Houston to continue his college career. He was a 6-foot-4-inch (1.93 m) guard, which means he was tall and skilled at handling the ball and shooting.

Professional Basketball Career

Starting in the NBA

Even though Andre was not chosen in the NBA draft, he still made it to the NBA. He signed with the Utah Jazz in 2005 as a free agent. This means he was not tied to any team and could sign with any team that wanted him. He played for the Jazz during the 2005-06 NBA season.

In 2006, Andre was traded to the Golden State Warriors. However, he was released by the Warriors before playing any regular season games for them. The next year, in 2007, the Indiana Pacers signed him to a one-year contract.

Playing in Europe and Beyond

In September 2008, Andre moved to Europe to play basketball. He signed with a team called Crvena zvezda in Serbia. After that, he played for several other teams in different countries:

  • In 2009, he joined Türk Telekom B.K. in Turkey.
  • Later in 2009, he played for Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia.
  • In 2010, he had short contracts with Bàsquet Manresa and CB Granada in Spain.
  • He then played for the Ukrainian club BC Donetsk.
  • From 2011 to 2013, he played for teams in Bulgaria and Cyprus.
  • In 2014, he played for C.R.D. Libolo in Angola.
  • In 2015, he signed with Zepter Vienna in Austria, which was one of his last professional playing teams.

Playing in the BIG3 League

In the summer of 2017, Andre Owens played in the BIG3 League. This is a professional 3-on-3 basketball league in the United States. He played for a team called 3's Company.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Andre Owens became involved in coaching. He was named the General Manager (GM) of the Indy Express. The Indy Express is a basketball team that plays in TBL. As of 2021, he has been the head coach for the Indy Express.
