Becoming a Baseball Player
Andre Robertson was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1979. This happened during the June Amateur Draft. He started his professional baseball career that same year. He played for the Class A-Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays. He also played for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs. These are lower levels of professional baseball.
Playing in the Major Leagues
Andre joined the New York Yankees in 1981. He was seen as a very promising player. Many people thought he would have a great career. He played for the Yankees until 1985.
A Difficult Challenge
In 1983, Andre was in a serious car accident. This accident caused him significant injuries. It made it very hard for him to play baseball at the same high level again. He continued to play professionally for a few more years. His last professional season was in 1989. He played for the Texas Rangers' Triple-A team, the Oklahoma City 89ers.
