Early Life and Draft
Andre Robertson was born in Orange, Texas. He started his professional baseball journey in 1979. The Toronto Blue Jays team picked him in the 4th round of the June Amateur Draft that year. He began playing for their minor league teams. These included the Class A-Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays and the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs.
Playing for the Yankees
Robertson later joined the New York Yankees. He made his first appearance in Major League Baseball on September 3, 1981. He was seen as a very promising young player for the Yankees. Many people believed he would have a great career. He played as both a second baseman and a shortstop for the team.
A Career-Changing Accident
In 1983, Andre Robertson was in a car accident. This accident caused serious injuries, including a broken neck. These injuries greatly affected his ability to play baseball. He worked hard to recover. However, he was never quite able to play at the same high level as before the accident.
