Andreas Kappes (born December 23, 1965 – died July 31, 2018) was a famous German cyclist. He was a professional rider from 1987 to 2009. Andreas competed in both road cycling and track cycling. He won a total of 133 races in his career. As a young amateur cyclist, he even represented West Germany at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Andreas Kappes passed away at the age of 52. His death was caused by an allergic reaction to an insect bite.

Andreas Kappes was a very successful cyclist for many years. He was known for his speed and skill on both the road and the track. His career showed how dedicated he was to cycling.
Road Racing Achievements
In the first part of his career, Andreas Kappes mainly focused on road races. These are races held on regular roads, often over long distances. He won an impressive 99 road races. Some of his biggest wins include:
- Winning the Omloop het Volk race in 1991.
- Winning the Tour de l'Oise in 1991.
- Taking three stage wins in the Tour de Suisse (in 1989 and 1994). A stage win means he won one day's race within a longer tour.
- Winning two stages in Paris–Nice (in 1988 and 1991).
- Winning one stage in the famous 1988 Giro d'Italia. The Giro d'Italia is one of the biggest cycling races in the world.

Track Cycling Success
As the 1990s began, Andreas Kappes became very well-known as a strong track cyclist. Track cycling happens on special indoor or outdoor tracks called velodromes. He was especially good at Six-day races. These are exciting events where teams of two riders compete for six days straight. They race for many hours each day.
Andreas Kappes won 24 Six-day races out of 122 starts. This shows how skilled and enduring he was. He won 13 of these races with his Belgian teammate, Etienne De Wilde. Their partnership was very successful on the track.

- 1987: Won stages in the Coors Classic and the Vuelta a Andalucía.
- 1988: Won a stage in the 1988 Giro d'Italia and a stage in 1988 Paris–Nice.

- 1991: Had a fantastic year, winning 1991 Omloop Het Volk and Trofeo Luis Puig. He also won a stage in 1991 Paris–Nice.
- 1994: Won a stage in the 1994 Tour de Suisse and the Tour de Berne. He also finished second in Rund um den Henninger Turm.
- 1999: Finished second overall in the Deutschland Tour and won a stage there.
