Andy Hinson grew up in Camden, New Jersey. He attended Camden High School, graduating in 1949. After high school, he went on to Bethune–Cookman University. While playing football for Bethune–Cookman, he showed great talent. In 1952, he was recognized as a Little College All–American, which is a special honor for top players from smaller colleges.

Coaching High School Teams

After his playing career, Andy Hinson began coaching. He started at Hastings High School in Florida, where he coached for many years, from 1956 to 1971. Later, he returned to his hometown to coach at Camden High School in New Jersey from 1972 to 1975. During his time coaching high school football, he achieved an impressive record of 154 wins, 31 losses, and 5 ties. In 1973, he was even named the best high school football coach of the year, showing how much he impacted his teams.

Leading College Football Teams

Andy Hinson then moved on to coach at the college level. He became the head coach for the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats from 1976 to 1978. During his time there, his team won the SIAC Division I championship in 1976. This was a big achievement for the team!

After Bethune-Cookman, Coach Hinson led the Cheyney Wolves from 1979 to 1984. At Cheyney, his team also achieved success, winning the PSAC Eastern Division championship in 1979. Overall, his college coaching record was 46 wins, 47 losses, and 2 ties. He helped many young players develop their skills and love for the game.
