Andy Jones, whose full name is Andrew Jordan Jones, was born on January 15, 1948. He is a well-known Canadian comedian, actor, and writer. He was also a member of a famous comedy group called CODCO.

Andy Jones's Early Life
Andy Jones grew up in St. John's, which is in Newfoundland. He was one of four children. His sister, Cathy Jones, is also a comedian.
Andy went to St. Bonaventure's College and then Gonzaga High School. He later studied English and Theology at St. Mary's University (Halifax). After that, he studied drama at the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto. He acted in many plays while he was at university.
Andy Jones's Career in Comedy and Acting
Andy Jones started his acting career in England in the early 1970s. He performed with different theatre groups there. When he returned to Newfoundland, he joined The Newfoundland Travelling Theatre Company.
Joining CODCO
In 1974, Andy joined the comedy group CODCO. This group became very popular. He later wrote for and performed in four seasons of the CODCO TV comedy series, which aired from 1988 to 1991.
Writing and Film Work
Andy also wrote for one season of the TV show The Kids in the Hall. He even had a small part in their movie, Brain Candy.
He helped write and direct a movie called The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood in 1986. Andy has acted in several other films too, including Rare Birds and Sweetland.
Stage Performances
Andy Jones has performed in many plays. He played the main character in a play called Tartuffe at the National Arts Centre in 2013. This play later toured around Newfoundland. He also played Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at the National Arts Centre in 2016 and 2017.
TV Appearances
You might have seen Andy Jones on CBC Television. He has appeared in comedies like Dooley Gardens, Republic of Doyle, and Little Dog.
One-Man Shows and Exhibits
Since 1983, Andy has written and performed five different one-man comedy shows. He has toured these shows to many places. In 2006, he opened an exhibit at The Rooms museum in St. John's. It was called "The Spirit in the House" and featured a large illustrated table.
Andy Jones's Books for Children
Andy Jones has written six children's books. These books are based on old Newfoundland folktales.
His book Jack and Mary in the Land of Thieves won the Winterset Award in 2013. Another one of his books, Jack, the King of Ashes, was nominated for a Governor General's Award in 2015. This award is for great Canadian books.

Awards and Honours
Andy Jones has received special recognition for his work. In 2019, he was named a Member of the Order of Canada. This is one of Canada's highest honours. In 2024, he also became a Member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, which is a top honour for his home province.
