Andy Joel Stanton (born 14 November 1973) is a famous English writer. He writes funny books for children. He is best known for his popular Mr Gum series. These books have made a big splash in children's literature. David Tazzyman draws the pictures for the Mr Gum books. Andy Stanton's writing style is inspired by other great authors. These include Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton.

Andy Stanton's Early Life
Andy Stanton grew up in London, England. He lived in the suburbs of Harrow and Pinner. He went to Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith. Later, he studied English at Oxford University. However, he left university early.
Before becoming a full-time author, Andy had many different jobs. He worked as a film script reader. This means he read movie ideas to see if they were good. He was also a cartoonist, drawing funny pictures. For a while, he even worked as a temporary medical secretary for the NHS.

The Mr Gum Series
The Mr Gum books are set in a made-up town. This town is called Lamonic Bibber. The town even has its own pretend newspaper. It is called The Lamonical Chronicle. You can find it on the Mr Gum website. It's described as "Lamonic Bibber's second best and only paper." Some of the fun characters in the books are Old King Thunderbelly and Polly.
These books have won many cool awards. In 2007, You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum! won the Red House Children's Book Award. It also won two Blue Peter Book Awards for Best Book With Pictures. In 2008, Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear won the first-ever Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
Andy Stanton has written nine books in the Mr Gum series. Egmont Books publishes them in the UK. David Tazzyman draws all the pictures.

Andy Stanton reads the first eight Mr Gum books himself for the audiobooks. These were made by BBC Audio. In 2012, the first four books were also recorded. The famous actress Kate Winslet narrated them.
Mr Gum on Stage
The Mr Gum stories have also been turned into plays! Andy Stanton wrote the words and songs for Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear - The Musical!. It first opened at the Royal National Theatre in London in July 2019.
In Germany, the Magdeburg Theater has also put on Mr Gum plays. In 2022, they staged "Mr Gum and the Cherry Tree." In 2023, they performed "Mr Gum and the Secret Hideout."

Andy Stanton's Personal Life
