Early Life and Background

Angelica Locsin Colmenares was born on April 23, 1985, in Santa Maria, Bulacan. Her father, Angelo Colmenares, was a swimmer who won a bronze medal for the Philippines at the 1954 Asian Games. Angel has two younger siblings, Ella and Angelo.

Locsin and her siblings were raised by their father, who later became blind. She has said she wishes she could have helped pay for his treatment when his condition first started. She is very close to her father and says he was a big inspiration for her success.

She went to the University of Santo Tomas High School, where she was on the swimming team. One day, a talent scout saw her at a mall and asked her to audition for TV commercials. After high school, she decided to become an actress and took acting workshops at ABS-CBN's Star Magic.
