Angelica Locsin Colmenares (born April 23, 1985), known as Angel Locsin, is a Filipino actress and humanitarian. She is famous for playing strong female characters, like heroines and mythical beings, in movies and TV shows. Angel has won many awards, including four Star Awards, three FAMAS Awards, and two Box Office Entertainment Awards.

Born in Santa Maria, Bulacan, Angel Locsin went to the University of Santo Tomas Junior High School. She started acting in the early 2000s in smaller roles. She became very popular after starring as the bird-human hero in the fantasy series Mulawin (2004). The next year, she played the famous superhero Darna in the series Darna (2005), which critics loved.

For her role as a young lycanthrope (a person who can turn into a wolf) in the supernatural drama Lobo (2008), Angel was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Best Actress. She also starred in popular romantic dramas like Love Me Again (2009) and Unofficially Yours (2012). Unofficially Yours is her highest-earning movie so far. In the family drama One More Try (2012), she played a single mom helping her sick son. This role won her Best Actress awards from the Box Office Entertainment, FAMAS, Luna, and Star Awards. Early Life and Start in Acting

Angelica Locsin Colmenares was born on April 23, 1985, in Santa Maria, Bulacan. Her parents are Angelo and Emma Colmenares. Her father was a swimmer who won a bronze medal in the 1954 Asian Games. Angel has two younger siblings, Ella and Angelo. She was raised by her father, who later became completely blind. Angel feels a strong connection with her father and says he helped her achieve her goals.

Angel went to the University of Santo Tomas High School, where she was on the swimming team. A talent scout noticed her at a mall and arranged for her to try out for TV commercials. After high school, she focused on acting and took workshops with ABS-CBN's talent agency, Star Magic. She first tried out for a role in the teen series G-mik (1999) but didn't get the part.

Her big break came in 2004 with the fantasy action series Mulawin. She played the main character, a hero who is part-bird, part-human. Angel Locsin turned down the lead role in the TV remake of Marimar. Instead, she joined ABS-CBN's 2008 supernatural drama series Lobo. She played Lyka Raymundo, a young lycanthrope caught in a war between werewolf groups. She found the project challenging but felt it improved her acting. She was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Best Actress for this series.

In 2009, Angel starred with Piolo Pascual in the romantic drama Love Me Again. She felt that parts of her character's life, like being the main provider for her family, were similar to her own. Critics praised her performance, noting her improved acting. In April 2009, she also starred in the comedy series Only You, based on a Korean show.

Angel played Lia Ortega, the daughter of her character from Lobo, in the second part of the series, Imortal (2010). Her only movie in 2011 was the romantic drama In the Name of Love. In 2013, Angel Locsin was part of the comedy-drama Four Sisters and a Wedding. She starred with Bea Alonzo, Shaina Magdayao, and Toni Gonzaga, playing sisters who try to stop their brother's wedding. Critics were very impressed with her performance. The movie was a big success, earning about ₱175 million (around US$4.1 million). Angel was nominated for FAMAS and Star Awards for Best Actress for this film. She then returned to TV in the drama series The Legal Wife (2014).

After a year off-screen, Angel appeared in three productions in 2016. Her first was Everything About Her, a comedy-drama with Vilma Santos. Critics praised Angel's and Vilma's acting, calling their performances "effortless" and "natural". Angel won Best Supporting Actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival for this movie. Helping Others and Activism

Angel Locsin is known as one of the most active Filipino celebrities in helping others and community work. She is a volunteer and an ambassador for the Philippine Red Cross.

After typhoons Ketsana and Parma in 2009, she and actress Anne Curtis organized "Shop & Share," which raised ₱1 million for emergency aid. She also gave ₱600,000 to the ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya Fund. In 2013, Angel sold her 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle car and gave the money to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). After the 2019 Cotabato earthquakes, she helped with relief efforts and donated ₱1 million. Two years later, Angel promised to donate ₱2 million to the Office of the Vice President to help victims of Typhoon Rai (Odette). During the COVID-19 pandemic, Angel and Anne Curtis held an auction that raised ₱6 million to help with COVID-19 vaccines in the Philippines.

Angel Locsin also supports children's education. She has funded scholarships and personally given over US$300,000 to this cause. She is a strong supporter of women's rights and gender equality. She has spoken about the challenges women face, saying there needs to be more effort to create safe workplaces for women. She also actively supports LGBT rights and calls herself a "proud ally." In June 2015, she supported same-sex marriage, saying, "We should show respect, sensitivity, & compassion to one another."

Angel first learned about the difficulties of the indigenous Lumads during a visit to Marawi in 2009. This experience helped her understand their situation better. In 2015, she spoke out against the violence and killings of Lumads. During the 2017 siege in Marawi, about 200,000 people, including 2,500 Lumads, had to leave their homes. In the weeks that followed, Angel traveled to Mindanao. She met with people who had been displaced in different camps and provided them with food and money.

Angel Locsin has received much recognition for her humanitarian work. In December 2019, Forbes magazine named her one of Asia's Heroes of Philanthropy for her decade of contributions. She was also named an Ambassador for Peace and a Humanitarian Advocate by the Gawad Filipino Awards. In October 2020, Tatler magazine recognized her as one of Asia's Leaders of Tomorrow. The next year, she received the first Spirit of Philanthropy Award from the Philippine Red Cross.

Personal Life

Angel Locsin was in a relationship with actor Miko Sotto for six months until he died in an accident in December 2003. She said it was very hard to let him go but she had to move on. From 2005 to 2016, Angel was in relationships with other well-known people, including Miko Sotto's cousin Oyo Boy Sotto, her Majika co-star Dennis Trillo, former footballer Phil Younghusband, and actor Luis Manzano.

In September 2017, Angel started dating professional poker player and film producer Neil Arce. They got engaged in June 2019 and were married in a civil ceremony on July 26, 2021. In March 2022, Angel shared that she and her husband were not planning to have a baby yet because she was still getting treatment for a thyroid health problem.
