Angela Robinson is an American actress and singer. She is famous for playing Veronica Harrington in the TV show The Haves and the Have Nots on the OWN channel. For this role, she won a special award called the Gracie Award.
Angela has also performed in many plays on Broadway and Off-Broadway. These are big stages in New York City. She worked with well-known directors like Sheldon Epps and Tina Landau. Some of her most notable stage roles include Shug Avery in The Color Purple and Deena Jones in Dreamgirls.

Angela Robinson's Life and Career
Angela Robinson was born and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She went to William M. Raines High School and then to Florida A&M University. While in college, she was crowned Miss Florida A&M University.
Starting Her Acting Journey
In 1992, Angela moved to New York City to start her acting career. She began performing in plays. In 1995, she acted in Dreamgirls at the Paper Mill Playhouse. In 1997, she joined the original Broadway production of Play On!. This play was directed by Sheldon Epps.
From 1998 to 1999, Angela toured with The Wizard of Oz. She performed alongside famous actors like Mickey Rooney and Eartha Kitt. During this time, she also acted at TheatreFest with Ruth Brown.
Broadway and Beyond
In 2001, Angela starred as Gwynne in the Broadway revival. A revival means bringing an older play back to the stage. That same year, she made her first movie appearance in Another Bed. In 2002, she performed in Golden Boy at New York City Center.
Between 2003 and 2004, Angela was part of several Off-Broadway shows. These included Radiant Baby and Ain't Misbehavin'. She also acted in the Broadway revival of Wonderful Town. In 2004, she played Deena Jones again in the national tour of Dreamgirls.
Television Success and Awards
In 2005, Angela appeared on TV in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. From 2005 to 2008, she was in the original Broadway show of The Color Purple. She also joined the first national tour of the musical. On this tour, she was an understudy for the role of Shug Avery. Later, she took over the role of Shug Avery, acting with Fantasia Barrino.
From 2013 to 2021, Angela starred as Veronica Harrington in The Haves and the Have Nots. This TV show was produced by Tyler Perry. Her character, Veronica, was a strong villain. In 2015, Angela won a Gracie Award for her amazing performance.
Recent Projects
In 2021, Angela played Billie Holiday in the play Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. In 2024, she acted in Tyler Perry's Netflix movie Mea Culpa. She also returned to television in the miniseries Lady in the Lake for Apple TV+.
Personal Life
In 1996, Angela Robinson married Scott Whitehurst, who is also a stage actor. In June 2018, they adopted a son named Robinson Scott.
