Angela Robinson is an American actress and singer. She is well-known for her role as Veronica Harrington in the TV show The Haves and the Have Nots on the OWN channel. For this role, she won a special award called the Gracie Award. Angela has also performed in many plays on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages.
Some of her most famous stage roles include playing Shug Avery in The Color Purple during its U.S. National Tour. She also played Deena Jones in Dreamgirls on its U.S. National Tour.

About Angela Robinson
Early Life and Start in Acting
Angela Robinson was born and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She went to William M. Raines High School and then to Florida A&M University. While in college, she was crowned Miss Florida A&M University.
In 1992, Angela moved to New York City to start her acting career. She began performing in plays. In 1995, she appeared in Dreamgirls at the Paper Mill Playhouse. In 1997, she was part of the original Broadway production of Play On!. From 1998 to 1999, Angela toured the U.S. with The Wizard of Oz musical. She acted alongside famous stars like Mickey Rooney and Eartha Kitt.
Broadway and TV Success
In 2001, Angela starred as Gwynne in the Broadway revival of Bells Are Ringing. That same year, she made her first film appearance in Another Bed. She continued to perform in many stage productions. These included Golden Boy in 2002 and Radiant Baby in 2003. She also appeared in Ain't Misbehavin' and Wonderful Town on Broadway. In 2004, she played Deena Jones again in Dreamgirls on its U.S. National Tour.
In 2005, Angela appeared on TV in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. From 2005 to 2008, she was part of the original Broadway cast of The Color Purple. She later joined the first U.S. National Tour of the show. During the final part of that tour, Angela took on the main role of Shug Avery. She performed with singers like Fantasia Barrino and LaToya London.
From May 2013 to July 2021, Angela Robinson played Veronica Harrington in The Haves and the Have Nots. Her character was a strong and stylish villain. For this role, Angela won a Gracie Award in 2015.
Recent Projects
In 2021, Angela starred as Billie Holiday in the play Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. In 2024, she acted in the Netflix movie Mea Culpa with Kelly Rowland. She also returned to television in the miniseries Lady in the Lake for Apple TV+.
Family Life
In 1996, Angela Robinson married Scott Whitehurst, who is also a stage actor. In June 2018, they adopted a son named Robinson Scott.
