Angela Romero is an American politician. She is the leader of the Democratic Party members in the Utah House of Representatives. She has represented the 25th District since January 1, 2023. Before that, she represented the 26th District starting in 2013.

About Angela Romero's Early Life and Education

Angela Romero was born and grew up in Tooele, Utah. She is part of the Chicana community. This means her family has Mexican American roots. She is also a member of the Assiniboine people, a Native American tribe.

Romero went to the University of Utah. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. This degree helps people understand how governments work. Later, she got a master's degree in public administration. This degree teaches how to manage public services.

Angela Romero's Journey in Politics

Angela Romero was first elected to office in November 2012. This means people voted for her to represent them. During the 2016 legislative session, she worked on several important committees. A legislative session is when lawmakers meet to create new laws.

Romero and Luz Escamilla also became the first Latinas to be elected Minority Leaders in the Utah Legislature.

How Angela Romero Won Elections

  • 2014 Election: Romero did not face any opponents from her own party. In the general election, she ran against Spencer Barclay. She won with 2,977 votes, which was 72.8% of all votes.
  • 2012 Election: The previous representative for District 26, David Litvack, left his seat. Romero was chosen by the Democratic Party. She won the election on November 6, 2012. She received 4,926 votes (65.4%). Her opponents were Andres Paredes from the Republican Party and Mark Dee Whitaker from the Green Party.
