Where is the Diocese of Calgary Located?

The Anglican Diocese of Calgary covers a large area in southern Alberta. Its southern edge is the border between Alberta and the United States. To the east, it reaches the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. The western side is along the Alberta-British Columbia border.

Its northern boundary is a line just north of Lacombe. This line also marks the southern border of the Diocese of Edmonton. The total area is about 82,000 square miles (212,000 square kilometers). This land includes mountains, foothills, parkland, and prairies. Besides Calgary, other important cities in the diocese are Red Deer, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge.

Who Belongs to the Diocese?

The Anglican Diocese of Calgary has many members. According to recent numbers from the church, there are about 7,500 Anglicans. These members are part of 67 different church communities, called parishes. On an average Sunday, nearly 2,500 people attend church services.

The diocese is led by a bishop. The bishop helps guide the churches and people in the diocese. The current bishop is Greg Kerr-Wilson. He has been the bishop since 2012. He also holds a special role as the Metropolitan of the Northern Lights since 2024.
