Angola is a small, unincorporated community located in Labette County, Kansas, United States. Being "unincorporated" means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government, but rather a group of homes and businesses in a specific area.
A Look Back: The History of Angola
Angola was first planned and settled in 1886. A post office was opened there on January 31, 1887. This office helped people send and receive mail. It continued to serve the community for many years. However, the post office closed down on September 16, 1971.
For a long time, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad served Angola. This railroad helped connect the community to other places. Trains would pass through, carrying goods and people. But in the 1970s, a big flood happened. The Verdigris River overflowed and washed away the railroad bridge. Because of this, trains could no longer use that route. The railroad traffic had to be sent another way, so trains stopped passing through Angola.
