What is Animalia About?
Animalia is an alphabet book that uses a fun trick called alliteration. Alliteration is when many words in a sentence start with the same sound. The book has 26 amazing pictures, one for every letter from A to Z.
Hidden Fun in the Pictures
Each picture shows an animal, like an alligator for 'A' or a butterfly for 'B'. There's also a short poem on each page. Many words in the poem start with the letter of that page. For example, on the 'A' page, you might find "Awesome alligators always arrive armed".
The pictures are full of other objects that also start with the same letter. It's like a big "I Spy" game! You can try to find all the hidden items. As an extra challenge, the author, Graeme Base, hid a picture of himself as a child in every single illustration. Can you find them all?
Other Animalia Products
Because Animalia is so popular, other fun products have been made based on the book.
Colouring Books and Frieze
In 2008, a special Animalia colouring book was released. This let kids colour in Graeme Base's amazing drawings themselves. There was also a wall frieze called The Animalia Wall Frieze. This was a long, fold-out picture that was over 26 feet long! It had new riddles for each letter of the alphabet.
Animalia on Screen
The book was so loved that it was even turned into a television series!
The TV Series
The Animalia TV show aired in many countries. These included the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It also showed in Norway, Venezuela, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Greece. In 2011, a special teaching DVD was made to help teachers use the TV series in classrooms.
Mobile App
In 2010, Animalia also became an app for iPads and iPhones. This allowed even more people to enjoy the book's world on their mobile devices.
