Anime Midwest is a big yearly event for fans of anime, Japanese culture, and video games! It happens for three days every July in Rosemont, Illinois. People gather at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and the Stephens Convention Center for this fun convention. It's held in the same place as another popular event, Anime Central.

What to Do at Anime Midwest

Anime Midwest is packed with exciting activities for everyone! You can watch anime movies and shows. There's an artist room where you can see and buy amazing art. Many people join the cosplay masquerade contest, showing off their cool costumes.

Fun Activities and Games

You can also find a dealers room to buy merchandise. Fans host panels to talk about their favorite topics. There's a formal dance and chances to get autographs from special guests. You can sing your heart out at karaoke or dance at the rave parties. Video game tournaments are popular, too.

Special Treats and Workshops

The convention also has a Maid Cafe, which is a fun themed restaurant. A special treat is the free ConSweet. Here, attendees can get free ramen noodles, rice, oatmeal, and soda. You can also learn new skills at various workshops.

Anime Midwest's Journey

Anime Midwest first started in 2011. It moved to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois, in 2013. This location is now its main home. Over the years, the convention has grown a lot, welcoming more and more attendees.

Challenges Along the Way

In 2015, the convention sometimes had long lines for people to register. Some guests, like Deadlift Lolita and FEMM, couldn't come in 2019. This was due to issues with their travel paperwork. Sadly, Anime Midwest 2020 had to be canceled. This happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected many events worldwide.

Collaborations

In 2012, Anime Midwest helped sponsor a special cosplay prom. This event allowed attendees to dress up and enjoy a dance.
