Anna Bofill Leví was born in Barcelona, Spain. Her father, Emilio Bofill y Benessat, was Catalan. Her mother, Maria Levi, came from Venice and had Jewish roots. Anna has two daughters. She is married to María Cinta Montagut, a Spanish writer. Anna's brother was the famous architect Ricardo Bofill.
Anna's Education and Early Career
Anna studied piano and music theory with several great teachers. These included Jordi Albareda, Xavier Montsalvatge, Josep Cercós, and Josep Mestres Quadreny. She also earned a special degree in architecture. This degree was from the Barcelona School of Architecture.
From 1963, Anna helped start a company called Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura (RBTA). This company was led by her older brother, Ricardo Bofill. It was a team of many different experts working on architecture. Anna worked there until 1981.
Continuing Her Studies in Music
After leaving RBTA, Anna kept learning about music. She studied electroacoustic music with Gabriel Luis and Callejo Brncic. She also learned about computer music with Xavier Serra and Sergi Jordi. These studies took place at the Phonos Laboratory in Barcelona.
In 1982, Anna went to a conference about new music in Sitges. She also took classes at the Miró Foundation. There, she learned from important composers like Luigi Nono and Joan Guinjoan. In 1985, she worked in Paris at a special center for music and math. This center was led by Iannis Xenakis. In 1983, Anna even translated one of Xenakis's books, Musique, architecture, into Catalan. The book was about music and architecture.
Other Creative Projects
Anna Bofill has also designed sets for plays. She has written music for theater shows by Ricard Salvat and Mark Medoff. She has also created other music for special events. Anna has worked with directors like Magda Puyo Pepe Duran. She also writes articles for her profession. In 2009, she received a special award called the President Macià Work Medal. This award came from the government of Catalonia.
