Joan Guinjoan i Gispert (born November 28, 1931 – died January 1, 2019) was a talented Spanish musician from Catalonia. He was famous for being both a great composer (someone who writes music) and a skilled pianist (someone who plays the piano). A Life in Music
Joan Guinjoan was born in a town called Riudoms in Catalonia, Spain. From a young age, he loved music.
Early Studies and Piano Career
He started his music journey by studying at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona. This is a famous music school! Later, in 1954, he moved to Paris, France, to continue his studies at the École normale de musique. He also learned from another great teacher named Cristòfor Taltabull.
For many years, Joan was a very active pianist. He performed in over 250 piano concerts! Imagine playing the piano that many times for an audience.
Becoming a Composer
In the 1960s, Joan decided to change his focus. He stopped performing as much and started spending more time writing his own music. He joined another music school in Paris, the Schola Cantorum de Paris, in 1962. The next year, he returned to Barcelona.
