Life of a Poet
Anne Chamber and her older sister, Mary, inherited their parents' property. They were known as co-heiresses, meaning they shared the inheritance equally.
On May 7, 1737, Anne married Richard Grenville-Temple, 2nd Earl Temple. He later became the second Earl Temple. Reports suggest that the couple had a very large income. Anne's dowry, which was money or property she brought into the marriage, was said to be £50,000. Some people even mistakenly called Richard the richest man in England.
Family Life
In 1742, Anne and Richard's only child, Elizabeth, sadly passed away at the age of four.
Her Poetry
Anne Chamber became well-known for her poetry, which she started writing as an adult. In 1764, a friend named Horace Walpole helped publish 100 of her poems. They were released under the simple title "Poems" by "Anna Chamber."
Later Years
Anne Chamber died in Stowe in Buckinghamshire in 1777. This was just after her 40th wedding anniversary.
Many years later, in 1818, some of the verses she had sent to Lady Charles Spencer were also published.
