Anna Maria Ferrero (born Anna Maria Guerra; February 18, 1935 – May 21, 2018) was a talented Italian actress. She started her acting career very young and became famous for her roles in many Italian and international films during the 1950s and early 1960s. She worked with some of the biggest names in cinema before choosing to retire from acting.
Becoming an Actress
Anna Maria Ferrero was born Anna Maria Guerra. She later changed her last name to Ferrero. This was to honor a famous composer named Willy Ferrero.
Her first movie role was when she was just 15 years old. This film was called Il cielo è rosso (1950). Soon after, she appeared in other movies like Il duca di Sant'Elmo (1950). She also acted in Il Cristo proibito (1951). This was the only movie directed by the well-known writer Curzio Malaparte.
Working with Film Stars
Anna Maria Ferrero's career grew quickly. She worked with many important directors and actors. One famous director she worked with was Michelangelo Antonioni. They made the film I vinti together.
She also acted alongside famous actors. She was in Chronicle of Poor Lovers (1953) with Marcello Mastroianni. This movie won awards and was directed by Carlo Lizzani. Ferrero also appeared with the popular comedian Totò in Totò e Carolina (1953). She starred with Alberto Sordi in Una parigina a Roma (1954).
Ferrero worked with Vittorio Gassman in six different films. These movies included Lorenzaccio and King Vidor's War and Peace. She also appeared in Kean, which Gassman helped direct. Other films with Gassman were Giovanni dalle bande nere, Le sorprese dell'amore, and Il mattatore.
Her last appearance on screen was in a part of the movie Controsesso (1964). This section was directed by Ettore Scola.
Life After Acting
Anna Maria Ferrero decided to stop acting after she got married in 1963. She married French actor Jean Sorel. They had acted together in two films before their marriage. These movies were Gold of Rome (1961) and Four Days in Naples (1962).
