Anna Pump (born Anna Heitweg Tuitjer; April 11, 1934 – October 5, 2015) was a talented American chef, baker, and author. She was born in Germany and became famous for her special food shop in The Hamptons called Loaves & Fishes. Anna Pump also owned the Bridgehampton Inn and wrote four cookbooks. She was a mentor to Ina Garten, a well-known chef from Food Network. Ina Garten even wrote the introduction for Anna Pump's last cookbook, Summer on a Plate. Sometimes, Anna Pump appeared as a guest on Ina Garten's TV show, Barefoot Contessa.
Early Life and Journey to America
Anna Pump was born on a farm in Tarp, Germany, on April 11, 1934. In 1960, she moved to the United States with her husband, Detlef Pump. They also brought their two children, Harm and Sybille. The family first lived in Frenchtown, New Jersey. About ten years later, they moved to the Hamptons, a popular area in New York.
A Life in Food
Anna Pump became very well-known for her skills in the kitchen. Her shop, Loaves & Fishes, was a popular place for delicious baked goods and special meals. She shared her recipes and cooking tips in her cookbooks. Owning the Bridgehampton Inn also showed her talent for hospitality. Anna Pump lived in Sag Harbor, New York. She passed away in Bridgehampton on October 5, 2015. She was 81 years old.
