Bridgehampton is a small town in New York, located on the eastern part of Long Island. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). In 2010, about 1,756 people lived here.
Bridgehampton is part of the town of Southampton. Early settlers moved to this area around 1640. The local Shinnecock Indians called the area Sagaponack and Mecox.
The settlers created a community called Bullhead. Later, they renamed it Bridgehampton. This new name came from a bridge built across Sagg Pond in 1686. This bridge connected Mecox and Sagaponack.
Bridgehampton is also famous for two exciting things. It hosts the Hampton Classic Horse Show, a big event for horse lovers. It was also home to a road racing course, which was important in American car racing history.

Bridgehampton's Race Track History
The Bridgehampton Race Circuit was a famous road course. It was 2.85 miles long and had thirteen turns. This historic track was near Sag Harbor. Today, the land has been turned into a golf course and homes.

Bridgehampton has its own school district. The Bridgehampton Union Free School District runs the Bridgehampton School. This school teaches students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. There is also a private school in the area called the Hayground School.
Famous People from Bridgehampton
Many interesting people have connections to Bridgehampton:
- Lloyd Blankfein is a well-known American business executive.
- A. J. Pierzynski is an American baseball player.
- Ernestine Rose was born and grew up in Bridgehampton. She became a librarian at the New York Public Library. She was important in getting the Arthur A. Schomburg collection for the library.
- Carl Yastrzemski was a famous baseball player for the Boston Red Sox. He won the Triple Crown in 1967. He was born and raised in Bridgehampton.
