Anna Veith (born Anna Fenninger on June 18, 1989) is a famous Austrian ski racer. She won an Olympic gold medal and was the best overall skier in the World Cup for two seasons, in 2014 and 2015.
Anna was born in Hallein, Austria, and grew up in Adnet. She started her World Cup career in November 2006 when she was 17. She competed in many types of ski races, like Giant slalom, super-G, and downhill. Her big moment came in 2011 when she became a world champion in the super combined event. This was amazing because she hadn't won a World Cup race before! At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Anna won her first Olympic medal, a gold in the super-G. She also won the overall World Cup title and the giant slalom title that same season.

Anna Veith's Ski Racing Career
Early Years and First Wins (2006–2010)
Anna showed her talent early on. At the Junior World Championships in 2006, she won a gold medal in super-G and a silver in downhill.
She made her first World Cup appearance in November 2006. By January 2007, she earned her first World Cup points by finishing 16th in a giant slalom race. In December 2007, she achieved her best result yet, coming in fourth in a super combined event.
In 2008, at the Junior World Championships, Anna won another gold medal in giant slalom. The 2009 season saw her finish in the top 10 six times, including a second-place finish in a super-G race. She also won a bronze medal in super-G at the 2009 Junior World Championships. At the 2010 Winter Olympics, she placed 16th in both super-G and super combined.
Becoming a World Champion (2011)
The 2011 season was a very strong one for Anna. She finished in the top ten in twelve World Cup races and reached the podium twice. She ended the season 12th in the overall standings. At the 2011 World Championships, Anna won a gold medal in the super combined event. She also earned a silver medal in the team event with her Austrian teammates.
First World Cup Victories (2012–2013)
In December 2011, Anna won her very first World Cup race in Lienz, Austria, in the giant slalom. She continued to get great results, especially in super-G. After another giant slalom win in December 2012, she got her first super-G victory in March 2013.
At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, Austria, Anna won a bronze medal in the giant slalom. She finished third overall in the World Cup rankings that year.
Olympic Gold and Overall World Cup Title (2014)
The 2014 season was Anna's most successful yet. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, she won the gold medal in the super-G. A few days later, she won a silver medal in the giant slalom, missing gold by just 0.02 seconds.
After the Olympics, Anna continued her winning streak. She secured her first World Cup overall title and also won the crystal globe for the giant slalom discipline. She had four World Cup victories and eleven podium finishes that season.
World Championship and World Cup Titles (2015)
Anna had an amazing performance at the 2015 World Championships. She won gold medals in both the Super-G and Giant Slalom, and a silver medal in the downhill. She continued her strong form in the World Cup, winning the overall title and the giant slalom title in the very last race of the season.
Just before the 2015–16 season began, Anna had a serious fall during training. She injured her knee badly, which meant she missed the entire season and most of the next one. She returned to racing in December 2016 but struggled with her injuries. She had to withdraw from the rest of the World Cup season to focus on her recovery.
Pyeongchang Olympics (2018)
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Anna aimed to defend her 2014 Super-G gold medal. She won a silver medal in a very close race.
Another Injury and Retirement (2019–2020)
In January 2019, Anna suffered another knee injury during training, even though she didn't fall. This meant she had to miss the rest of that season and the World Championships.
Anna Veith announced her retirement from ski racing in May 2020, after a remarkable career filled with many achievements and challenges.
Supporting Cheetahs
Anna Veith is a big supporter of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). This group works to protect cheetahs and make sure they have a future on our planet. Anna's racing helmet even had a cheetah design! As an ambassador for CCF, she shared videos and photos of herself with cheetah designs to help people understand that these amazing animals are almost extinct.
From 2013 to 2015, Anna also worked with an Austrian group called Build an Ark. They focused on helping the cheetah project. The idea was to show how a top athlete and a wildlife group could work together to raise awareness about cheetahs and how society can help them survive.
Anna's Personal Life
Anna was born in Hallein, Austria. On April 16, 2016, she married her longtime boyfriend, Manuel Veith, who used to be a snowboarder. In February 2021, Anna announced that they were expecting their first child.
In November 2016, she released her autobiography called Zwischenzeit, which means "meantime." The book talks about her career and her experiences dealing with long-term injuries that kept her from competing.
