Anna Veith (born Anna Fenninger on 18 June 1989) is an amazing former alpine ski racer from Austria. She won a gold medal at the Olympics. Anna was also the best overall skier in the World Cup for two years in a row, in 2014 and 2015.

Anna was born in Hallein, Austria, and grew up in a village called Adnet. She started her World Cup career when she was just 17 years old in November 2006. She competed in many different ski events, but she stopped doing slalom races in 2012. Her biggest moment came in 2011 when she became a world champion in the super combined event. This was super cool because she hadn't even won a World Cup race before! At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Anna won her first Olympic medal, a gold in the super-G. That same year, she also won the World Cup overall title and the giant slalom title.

Anna Veith, whose maiden name was Fenninger, started her journey in ski racing at a young age. In the 2006 Junior World Championships, she won a gold medal in the super-G race. She also earned a silver medal in the downhill event.

On 11 November 2006, Anna made her first appearance in a World Cup race in Finland. She scored her first World Cup points in January 2007 by finishing 16th in a giant slalom race.

She kept getting better, and in December 2007, she achieved her best result yet, finishing fourth in the super combined event. At the 2008 Junior World Championships, Anna won another gold medal in giant slalom. She also took home two silver medals in combined and downhill.

In the 2009 season, Anna finished in the top 10 six times. Her best result was a second-place finish in a super-G race in January 2009. At the World Championships in France, she placed 4th in super-G and 7th in super combined. She also won a bronze medal in super-G at the 2009 Junior World Championships.

During the next season, Anna had three top 10 finishes. At the 2010 Winter Olympics, she finished 16th in both super-G and super combined, and 25th in downhill.

Becoming a World Champion: 2011

The 2011 season was a very successful year for Anna. She finished in the top ten in twelve World Cup races. She also reached the podium (top three) twice. She ended up 12th in the overall World Cup standings.

At the 2011 World Championships in Germany, Anna won a gold medal in the super combined event. She also won a silver medal in the team event with her Austrian teammates. She finished the season by winning another gold medal at the Austrian Championships in super-G.

First World Cup Wins and Olympic Success: 2012–2014

In December 2011, Anna won her very first World Cup race in Austria. It was a giant slalom event. She continued to win giant slalom races, and in March 2013, she won her first super-G race in Germany.

At the 2013 World Championships in Austria, Anna won a bronze medal in the giant slalom. She finished third overall in the World Cup standings that year.

The 2014 season was Anna's most successful year yet. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Anna won the gold medal in the super-G race. She won by more than half a second! A few days later, she won a silver medal in the giant slalom, missing gold by only 0.02 seconds.

After the Olympics, Anna continued her winning streak. She secured her first World Cup overall title by finishing second in a super-G race. She also won the final giant slalom race to clinch the crystal globe for that event. Anna had four World Cup victories and eleven podium finishes that season. Including the Olympics, she had five wins and thirteen podiums in total.

More World Titles: 2015

Anna had her best World Championships ever in 2015. She won gold medals in both the Super-G and Giant Slalom events. She also earned a silver medal in the downhill race.

After the World Championships, she continued her amazing performance in the World Cup. She won her ninth straight World Cup podium and her fifth victory of the season. The overall and giant slalom titles came down to the very last race of the season. Anna won that final giant slalom race, securing both the giant slalom and the overall World Cup titles!

Injuries and Retirement

Just before the start of the 2015–16 season, Anna had a bad fall during training. She seriously injured her knee, tearing both her ACL and meniscus. This meant she had to miss the entire season and most of the next one.

Anna returned to racing in December 2016 but struggled with her injuries. She managed a third-place finish in a Super-G race in January 2017. However, she decided to stop racing for the rest of the season to focus on her recovery.

In January 2019, Anna suffered another serious knee injury during training. This forced her to miss the rest of that season and the World Championships.

Finally, on 13 May 2020, Anna Veith announced that she was retiring from ski racing.

Pyeongchang Olympics: 2018

Anna tried to win her Super-G gold medal again at the PyeongChang Olympics. She ended up winning a silver medal, finishing just behind Czech skier Ester Ledecká in a big surprise result.

Helping Cheetahs

Anna Veith cares a lot about animals. She supports a group called the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). This group works to protect cheetahs and make sure they have a future on our planet. Anna even has a cheetah design on her race helmet! She shares videos and photos of herself with cheetah designs to help people know that cheetahs are almost extinct.

From 2013 to 2015, Anna also worked with an Austrian group called Build an Ark. They worked together to help the cheetah project for a long time. Their goal was to show how top athletes can help with wildlife conservation. This helped raise awareness about the problems cheetahs face and how everyone can help them survive.

Anna's Life Outside Skiing

Anna was born in Hallein, Austria. She later moved to Salzburg. On 16 April 2016, she married her longtime boyfriend, Manuel Veith, who used to be a snowboarder. In February 2021, Anna shared the happy news that they were expecting their first child.

In November 2016, Anna wrote a book about her life called Zwischenzeit, which means "meantime." The book talks about her amazing career and what it was like to be unable to compete because of her long injury.
