Annandale Water is a beautiful loch (which is a Scottish word for a lake) located in the south west of Scotland. It's found in an area called Annandale, within Dumfries and Galloway. This loch is a special part of the Annandale Water service station.

Where is Annandale Water?

The loch is right next to Junction 16 of the A74(M) motorway. It is close to small towns like Johnstonebridge, Dinwoodie, and Newton Wamphray. You can find it about halfway between the towns of Moffat and Lockerbie.

A Handy Stop for Travelers

Before the motorway service station was built, the old A74 road ran right beside the loch and its surrounding farmland. The service station opened in the spring of 1995. Since then, the loch and its nature trail have become a great place for people to stop. It's perfect for drivers, walkers, and anyone who wants to stretch their legs.

Keeping the Water Clean

The SEPA is an important group in Scotland. They are in charge of protecting the environment. SEPA regularly checks the water quality of Annandale Water. They also look at other things to make sure the loch stays healthy.

Wildlife at the Loch

Annandale Water is home to many different kinds of wildfowl. Wildfowl are birds that live near water. You can often see large numbers of them here. Some common birds you might spot include graceful mute swans. There are also many different types of geese and mallard ducks.
