Early Life and Education

Anne Mills was born in 1951. She went to Aston Clinton Primary School. Later, she attended Aylesbury High School and Oxford High School. These were both schools just for girls.

She studied history and economics at St Hilda's College, Oxford. In 1973, she earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA). This degree later became a Master of Arts (MA).

In 1976, she received a special diploma. This was in Health Service Studies from the University of Leeds. She then continued her studies at the University of London. In 1990, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Her PhD research was also in health economics.

Research and Work

Dame Anne Mills' main research focuses on healthcare. She studies how to provide good and fair healthcare. This is especially for countries with lower incomes.

Her work started in the 1980s. She looked at how much it cost to fight malaria in Nepal. She also studied how effective these efforts were.

She is part of the Disease Control Priorities Project. This project aims to improve health in poor countries. Since 2011, she has been a Vice-director at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

In 2006, she became a Foreign Associate of the Institute of Medicine. She was also President of the International Health Economics Association in 2012. In the same year, she joined the Board of Health Systems Global.
