Anne Williams-Isom (born November 17, 1964) is an important government official in New York City. She works as the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services. This means she helps manage and improve services related to health and social care for people living in New York City.

For a short time on October 8, 2024, she also served as the acting First Deputy Mayor. This happened after the previous First Deputy Mayor, Sheena Wright, left her job. Anne Williams-Isom held this role until Maria Torres-Springer was officially appointed later that same day.

Before becoming Deputy Mayor, Williams-Isom was a leader at the Harlem Children's Zone. This is a well-known organization that helps children and families in Harlem. Early Life and Education

Anne Williams-Isom was born on November 17, 1964, in Queens, a part of New York City. Her parents were Edna and Atthille Williams. As a student, she attended St. Catherine of Sienna School and later graduated from Dominican Commercial High School.

She went to Fordham University and earned a degree in political science and psychology in 1986. After college, she started working with the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn. She helped with community relations.

Later, she studied law at Columbia Law School and earned her law degree in 1991. She also took classes in ministry at the New York Theological Seminary.

Career Highlights

After finishing law school, Williams-Isom worked at a few law firms. In 1996, she joined the New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS). This agency helps protect and support children and families in New York City.

At ACS, she held several important roles. She was the director of community planning and development. She also worked as a special advisor to the commissioner. In 2006, she became the deputy commissioner for community and government affairs at ACS.

In 2009, Williams-Isom joined the Harlem Children's Zone. This organization provides many programs to help children and families succeed. She first served as the chief operating officer, helping to manage the organization's daily activities. On July 1, 2014, she became the chief executive officer, taking over from Geoffrey Canada. In this role, she led the entire organization.

Today, besides her work as Deputy Mayor, she holds a special teaching position at Fordham Graduate School of Social Service. She focuses on studies related to child welfare.

In December 2021, when Eric Adams was elected Mayor of New York City, he chose Anne Williams-Isom to be the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services. She officially started this important job in January 2022.
