Annie Ware Sabine Siebert (1864-1947) was an American artist. She was famous for her tiny, detailed paintings called miniatures.

Annie Siebert's Early Life

Annie Sabine was born in 1864 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her father, Hylas Sabine, was a politician. She grew up in Ohio, living in Marysville, Ohio and Richwood, Ohio. Her brother was Wallace Clement Sabine.

Her Amazing Education

Annie was a very smart student. She went to Ohio State University. In 1884, she earned her first degree there. Two years later, in 1886, she became the first woman to earn a master's degree from the university.

She continued her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1888, she was the first woman to earn an architecture degree from MIT. She also studied art at Harvard University.

Her Art Career

Annie Siebert was known for her miniature paintings. These are very small, detailed portraits or scenes. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Miniature Painters. This group focused on this special type of art.

Her work was shown at the 1933 Century of Progress World's Fair. This was a huge event in Chicago where people from all over the world shared new ideas and creations.

Her Family Life

On August 16, 1893, Annie married Wilbur Henry Siebert. She also had a foster son named John F. Marshall and a foster daughter named Mrs. Willie L. Howie.

Annie Siebert passed away on November 7, 1947. She died in Columbus, Ohio, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Her Lasting Legacy

In 1958, a women's residence hall at Ohio State University was named "Siebert Hall." This was done to honor Annie Siebert and her achievements. It recognized her as a pioneering student and artist.
