Anong Beam is an Ojibwe artist and curator from M'Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario, Canada. She is known for her beautiful paintings and her work in her community.

Anong Beam's Early Life and Education

Anong Migwans Beam was born to two talented artists. Her father, Carl Beam, was an award-winning Indigenous artist. Her mother, Ann Elena Weatherby, was also a well-known artist.

Anong Beam studied art at several places. In 1998, she went to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She then attended the Ontario College of Art and Design from 1999 to 2000. In 2001, she studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts. As of 2025, Anong Beam is working on her Masters degree at York University.

Anong Beam's Career and Community Work

Anong Beam's art often shows her connection to her home. Many of her paintings are inspired by Manitoulin Island, where she lives.

Besides creating art, Anong Beam is very active in her community. She has done important work as a curator, which means she helps organize art shows.

Radio and Cultural Leadership

In 2007, Anong Beam helped start Gimaa Radio Communications. This radio station in M'Chigeeng First Nation broadcasts in both English and the Ojibwe language. The station helps keep the Ojibwe language alive. It also features local Indigenous music.

From 2016 to 2017, Anong Beam was the Art Director of the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation. She then became the Executive Director of the foundation in 2017. This role involves leading the organization that supports Ojibwe culture.

BEAM Paints

In 2017, Anong Beam also started her own company called "BEAM Paints." She makes watercolour and oil paints. The special thing about her paints is that she finds all the minerals and pigments locally. This means she uses natural materials from her area to create her unique colors.

Protecting Indigenous Heritage

Anong Beam is also a strong supporter of protecting Indigenous history. She speaks out about preserving Indigenous archaeology and ceramics in local communities. This helps make sure that important cultural items are kept safe for future generations.

Authoring a Book

In 2024, Anong Beam wrote a book about her father's art career. The book is called Carl Beam: Life & Work. It was published by the Art Canada Institute.
