A Baronetcy is a special title given by the King or Queen in the United Kingdom. It's a bit like being a knight, but the title can be passed down through the family, usually to the eldest son. The person who holds the title is called a Baronet (Sir) or a Baronetess (Dame).

The Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe Baronetcy is one of these special titles. It was created in 1929 for a family connected to Elvetham Hall in Hampshire, England.

The First Baronet: Fitzroy Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe

The first person to receive this title was Sir Fitzroy Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe. He was born Fitzroy Hamilton Niall Lloyd-Anstruther in 1872. His family had a long history, including connections to other Baronets.

In 1910, he changed his last name to Anstruther. Later that same year, he added Gough-Calthorpe to his name. This was because he married Rachel, whose family was connected to the Baron Calthorpe title.

Passing Down the Title

When Sir Fitzroy passed away in 1957, his son, Sir Richard Hamilton Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, became the 2nd Baronet. Sir Richard was a Brigadier in the British Army. He also helped manage local affairs as a member of the Hampshire County Council.

Sir Richard held the title until 1985. After him, his grandson, Sir Euan Hamilton Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, became the 3rd Baronet. Sir Euan was born in 1966 and is the current holder of the title.
