Gough-Calthorpe family facts for kids
The Gough-Calthorpe family comes from very old and important families. These families owned a lot of land near Birmingham, England.
Sir Henry Gough, 1st Baronet (1709–1774) was a Member of Parliament. He was given the special title of baronet in 1728. He married into the Calthorpe family. The Calthorpes were also important landowners. They owned large estates called manors in places like Cockthorpe, Norfolk, and Ampton, Suffolk. They were also sometimes the main landlords, known as Lords of the Manor, of Edgbaston. The special design called a fess ermine on Birmingham's coat of arms is a nod to the Calthorpe family's own coat of arms.
The Calthorpe Barony, another special title, was created in 1796. It ended in June 1997 because the last Baron passed away without a male heir to take over the title.
