His Business Ventures
Antenor Patiño was a powerful figure in the business world. In 1947, he worked to make his company more efficient by dealing with labor unions.
A big change happened in 1952 during the Bolivian Revolution of 1952. The new government took control of Patiño's mines. This process is called nationalization, where the government takes over private businesses. Some people believe Antenor Patiño played a role in a military coup in the 1960s. A military coup is when the military takes control of a country's government by force. This coup removed the leader of the revolution, President Víctor Paz Estenssoro.
With his large fortune, Antenor Patiño also invested in developing beautiful places for tourists. For example, he helped create Las Hadas in Manzanillo, Mexico. This famous resort was even used as a filming location for the movie 10, which starred actress Bo Derek. He also developed Las Alamandas in Jalisco state, also in Mexico. These projects show how he used his wealth to build new and exciting destinations.
