Anthony Blevins (born July 23, 1976) is an American football coach and former player. He currently works as a defensive assistant for the Birmingham Stallions. This team is part of the United Football League (UFL). Blevins played in the original XFL for the Birmingham Thunderbolts. He also coached full-time in the NFL from 2013 to 2022.

Anthony Blevins's Education

Anthony Blevins is not just a great coach; he's also very educated! He has several college degrees. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from UAB. He also got a master's degree in Instructional Technology from UAB. While at UAB, he played as a defensive back for the football team. Later, he received a doctorate degree from Mississippi State University. His doctorate is in Instructional Systems and Work Force Development. He earned this degree while working as a graduate assistant coach there.

His Journey as a Player

Anthony Blevins played college football at UAB. After college, he became a professional football player. He played for the Mobile Admirals in the Regional Football League. He also played for the Birmingham Steeldogs in the af2 league. His professional playing career also included time with the Birmingham Thunderbolts. This team was part of the original XFL.

Coaching Football

Anthony Blevins has had a long and successful career as a football coach. He has coached at both the high school and college levels. He also spent many years coaching in the NFL.

Coaching in High School and College

Blevins started his coaching career at Meadowcreek High School in Georgia. He worked there for two years. He was the team's secondary coach. He also helped connect the team with the community.

From 2005 to 2007, he was a graduate assistant at Mississippi State University. In 2008, he coached at the University of Tennessee-Martin. There, he worked with the team's cornerbacks. He also helped with recruiting new players. From 2009 to 2011, Blevins coached at Tennessee State. He was in charge of special teams and cornerbacks. In 2012, Blevins returned to his old college, UAB. He coached the Blazers' cornerbacks.

Coaching in the NFL

After his college coaching, Blevins moved to the NFL.

Arizona Cardinals

From 2013 to 2017, Blevins worked for the Arizona Cardinals. He was an assistant special teams coach. He worked under head coach Bruce Arians.

New York Giants

In 2018, Blevins joined the New York Giants coaching staff. He spent two seasons as an assistant special teams coach. He worked directly under Thomas McGaughey. In 2020, he stayed with the Giants. He became the team's assistant secondary coach. He coached with Joe Judge, who he knew from Mississippi State. In 2021, his role changed again. He became the assistant linebackers coach and special teams assistant. In 2022, he was kept on by new head coach Brian Daboll. He returned to being the assistant special teams coach.

Coaching in the UFL

Vegas Vipers

In 2023, Anthony Blevins was announced as the new head coach of the Vegas Vipers. This team was part of the XFL. He was set to replace Rod Woodson. However, Blevins never actually coached for the Vipers. The XFL merged with another league to form the United Football League (UFL). Because of this merger, the Vipers team was closed down.

Birmingham Stallions

On May 28, 2024, Blevins joined the Birmingham Stallions. This team is part of the United Football League (UFL). He is currently a defensive assistant for the Stallions.
