Anthony Goldwire (born September 6, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. He also worked as a coach. He played in the NBA and other leagues around the world.
Anthony was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He played college basketball for the University of Houston. In the 1994 NBA draft, he was picked by the Phoenix Suns. He was the 52nd player chosen overall.
Playing Career Highlights
Anthony Goldwire started his professional career with the Yakima Sun Kings. This team was part of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In his first season (1994–95), he was named to the All-Rookie Second Team. This means he was one of the best new players in the league.
He continued to play well for the Sun Kings. In the 1995–96 season, he was chosen for the All-CBA First Team. This showed he was one of the top players in the entire CBA.
Goldwire returned to the Sun Kings later in his career. In the 2002–03 season, he rejoined the team. He was again named to the All-CBA First Team in 2004.
His best year with the Sun Kings was in 2006. He helped lead them to win the CBA championship! For his amazing performance, he was named the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP). He also won the league's Most Valuable Player award for the whole season. Plus, he was once again on the All-CBA First Team.
Anthony also played for teams in other countries. For example, he played for Panellinios in the Greek Basket League during the 2006–07 season. In 2009, he joined a Spanish team called CB Girona.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Anthony Goldwire became a coach. In July 2010, he joined the Phoenix Suns' coaching staff for their Summer League team. Later, he became an assistant coach for the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.
Personal Life
Anthony Goldwire has a cousin named Leemire Goldwire. Leemire also became a professional basketball player.
