Anthony Ramos is an American artist. He creates amazing video art, performances, and paintings. He was born in 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island. Today, he lives in the South of France.

Early Life and Learning

Anthony Ramos studied painting at Southern Illinois University. Later, he earned a special degree (an M.F.A.) from the California Institute of the Arts. He even worked as an assistant for a famous artist named Allan Kaprow.

During his early career, Anthony Ramos received important awards. These included fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rockefeller Foundation. These awards helped him create more art.

Anthony Ramos believed in peace. Because of his beliefs, he chose not to join the military. He faced consequences for this decision.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Ramos traveled a lot. He visited places in Europe, Africa, China, and the Middle East. He filmed and documented important historical moments. For example, he recorded the end of Portugal's rule in Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.

Since the late 1980s, Anthony Ramos has mainly focused on painting. His paintings have been shown in many international art venues. Some of these include the American Jazz Museum and Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center in Kansas City. His work was also shown at the Biennale de Dakar in Senegal.
